Emergency Room (ER)
The emergency room (ER) at Reeves Memorial Medical Center is here for your urgent medical needs. You can rely on us 24 hours a day for help with everything from serious illnesses to life-threatening injuries for your whole family.
Why Choose Us for Emergency Care?
There are many reasons our patients rely on us for their urgent needs, including:
- Personalized approach: Because we are a regional hospital serving Union Parish and its surrounding communities, our patients are also our friends and neighbors. So, we treat you like we would our own family.
- Quality care for all ages: We make it a priority to give you and your family great care. In recent surveys, 95% of patient responses were positive.
- Quick care: Our goal is to see you in 15 minutes or less. You won’t have to wait for care when you need it most.
- 24-hour access: Our ER is open around the clock. No matter when you need us, we’ll be ready.
Conditions We Treat
Our ER sees the full range of emergency care conditions. We stabilize, diagnose, and monitor patients to carry out the best plan of care, personalized to you.
Some of the conditions we see include:
- Broken bones
- Head injuries
- Heart attack
- Serious illnesses
- Severe burns
- Stomach pain
- Stroke
In the case of more complicated conditions, we may refer you to a specialist or larger regional hospital.
Emergency Diagnosis
To diagnose your condition, we offer:
- CT (computed tomography) scan: During a CT scan, you lie on a bed that slowly moves through an X-ray machine to create 3D images. The scan checks for blood clots, broken bones, heart conditions, internal bleeding or injuries, and tumors.
- EKG (electrocardiogram) test: In this test, multiple small sensors will be placed on your arms, chest, and legs while you lie on an exam table. The sensors are attached to an EKG machine. This test checks for heart conditions such as arrhythmia, heart attack, and heart failure, among others.
- Infusion therapy: Infusion therapy is a way of receiving medicine if you are unable to take it orally. Infusion is given through a catheter or needle. It’s used for treatment of autoimmune disorders, cancer, congestive heart failure, dehydration, hemophilia, lupus, migraine, rheumatoid arthritis, serious infections, and type 1 diabetes, among other conditions.
- Lab (laboratory) tests: A lab test is a sample of blood, urine, or other body fluid or tissue used to check for certain conditions or diseases.
- X-ray: An X-ray shows internal parts of the body such as air in the lungs, bones, fat, and muscle, among others. It’s used to diagnose blocked blood vessels, broken bones, congestive heart failure, kidney stones, lung infections like pneumonia, or items swallowed by a child.
Your Care Team
Our emergency care staff are trained to assess your situation quickly and accurately. Your care team may include:
- Physicians: Our ER doctors rapidly evaluate a patient’s condition and needs and decide on the most appropriate next steps to prevent further harm and facilitate healing.
- Nurse practitioners (NPs): NPs manage patient care in the ER, diagnose patients, decide on their care plans, and prescribe some medicines.
- Physician assistants (PAs): PAs examine and diagnose patients as well as provide treatment.
- Registered nurses (RNs): RNs gauge a patient’s condition, bandage wounds, give medicines, help manage chronic conditions, and explain care details to patients, among other responsibilities.
